Schönfeld Mennonite Zentralschule of the Schönfeld Mennonite settlement was established in 1907 with Hermann A. Rempel as teacher. The first year instruction was given in the Schönfeld elementary school. During this year a dwelling place for the teacher which served as a temporary school was built. A second teacher, Jacob J. Dueck, was employed. In the fall of 1909 an impressive Zentralschule building was completed and Abraham P. Töws was added as third teacher. Hermann Rempel was succeeded by Franz Ediger, and Töws by G. Schroeder. Later teachers were Aron Rempel, Heinrich Neufeld, Peter Sawatzky, Susanna Loewen, Helena Froese, Jakob Thiessen, and Jakob Neufeld. First the school was for boys only but later it became coeducational. Two additional residences for teachers were built.
