Nyamuko (Hezekiah) Sarya was baptized 23 January 1943 at Mukgango, Tanzania. He married Perusi on 1 March 1941. They had, in 1988, the following living children: Greshom, Boniface, Neema, Agness, Joshua, Magoma, Jude, Phebe, Joseph, John, Paulo, and Hilda. Several were deceased. They invested in the education of their children (three were accountants, two were engineers, and the others served as manager, economist, teacher, businessman, electrician and sportsman. The youngest was a student in 1988). Hezekiah and Perusi built a temporary house near the church's first boarding school in 1951 so that Hezekiah could complete primary education. By 1955 he had completed Bukiroba Bible School and in 1965 he graduated from Mennonite Theological College. He was called as teacher and evangelist in 1944 and was ordained as deacon (1955), minister (1960), and bishop (1979). For 25 years he served in the Musoma area in Mugango, Butata, Tegeruka, Wanyere, and Kabasa and then for 10 years in Dar es Salaam. As bishop, he lives at Bukiroba, Musoma. At Dar es Salaam he inaugurated regular offerings towards a large church building and got the project underway. He also served as government contact for the Mennonites. He was chairman of the Dar es Salaam ministerial group and served on committees of the Christian Council of Tanzania and on the board of Tanzania Bible Society. He has strengthened the life of the church at the district level as bishop. He planted congregations in Tabora, Dodoma, Sumbawanga, and Morogoro.
