Sander Woutersz, an Anabaptist martyr, burned at the stake on 3 September 1572, at Amsterdam, Netherlands. He was a native of Bommel, i.e., Zaltbommel in the Dutch province of Gelderland, and a tailor by trade. Evert Hendricks of Warendorp was executed with him. They were the last two Anabaptists to die in Amsterdam. Van Braght in the Martyrs' Mirror, though publishing the sentence in full, does not give much information about these martyrs. Grosheide has published some particulars from the records: Sander moved to Amsterdam in 1534 or 1535; he also lived in a village near Dordrecht, but the last years before his arrest he was living again at Amsterdam. About 1560 he was baptized by Joost Verbeeck. In his house sometimes meetings were held in which he or one of the brethren read a chapter from the Bible, followed by a "vermaning" (sermon). He was tortured on the rack, but did not reveal particulars concerning the congregation. His property was confiscated.
