Rosenberg, a village near Szczerzec (Shchirets; 49° 39' 0 N, E 23° 52' 0 E) in what was once Galicia in the Austrian Empire (now in Lviv Oblast, Ukraine), was established in 1786. Daniel Bergthold from Harxheim near Heidelberg, Germany, his son Jakob, and Johannes Rupp from Heppenheim, Palatinate, Germany, settled here during the founding year. They had originally planned to settle at Einsiedel. Some of these families moved to America during the migration of the 1870s.
