Rosenberg, a village near Szczerzec (Shchirets; 49° 39' 0'' N, E 23° 52' 0'' E) in what was once [[Galicia (Poland & Ukraine)|Galicia]] in the Austrian Empire (now in Lviv Oblast, Ukraine), was established in 1786. Daniel Bergthold from Harxheim near Heidelberg, Germany, his son [[Bergthold, Jakob (1766-1821)|Jakob]], and Johannes Rupp from Heppenheim, [[Palatinate (Rheinland-Pfalz, Germany)|Palatinate]], Germany, settled here during the founding year. They had originally planned to settle at [[Einsiedel (Lviv Oblast, Ukraine)|Einsiedel.]] Some of these families moved to America during the migration of the 1870s.
