Roelofs, Oeds (1765-1848)

Oeds Roelofs, born 1765 at Murmurwoude, died 8 November 1848, at Terhorne, both villages in the Dutch province of Friesland, served the Terhorne Mennonite congregation as pastor from 1791 until he retired in 1836. Roelofs had no special training for the ministry, nor did he receive a salary (perhaps, however, a small remuneration), but supported himself as a baker. Oeds Roelofs assumed the family name of Dantuma in 1810; a number of his descendants are still found in Friesland, many serving the church as deacons. Three uncles of Oeds Roelofs served as lay preachers of the Dantumawoude congregation about 1800.
