Johannes (John), Risser, a minister in the Mennonite congregation at Friedelsheim, Palatinate, Germany, 1825-32, where among other things he conducted missionary meetings. He was born at Friedelsheim, 27 November 1788. In 1813 he married Katharina Weber, who was related to the Mellinger family. In 1832 he immigrated to America. They as well as their relatives who had previously emigrated to Mellingers in Pennsylvania sent reports on travel and on America to their old home. Excerpts of these have been published in the Mennonite Quarterly Review. The German originals were probably published early in the 20th century in a newspaper of Worms. German excerpts were printed in the Wappenkunde of the Palatinate shortly before the appearance of the English version. Johannes Risser purchased some land and settled in Mifflin Township, Richland County, Ohio, not far from Mansfield in 1833. It appeared in the shop of Heinrich Eby at Berlin (now Kitchener-Waterloo), Ontario. It is an expansive treatment, in two parts, dealing respectively with the historical and the practical aspects.
