Wolf(gang) Rauffer, a martyr of the Hutterian Brethren, a tailor, hence also called Wolf Schneider, was taken prisoner with Hans Zuckenhammer in 1579 at Tittmoning in Upper Bavaria but released; he returned safely to the brotherhood in Moravia. In two songs Hans Zuckenhammer described the arrest and imprisonment. Wolf Rauffer was seized again on the Wednesday following Easter in 1585 with Hans Aichner and Georg Bruckmaier in the vicinity of Ried (at that time belonging to Bavaria, now Upper Austria), taken to Burghausen on the Salzach, and executed on 14 August 1585. He is the author of the beautiful song, "Weil ich so arm und elend bin."
