Pottinga family

Pottinga, a Mennonite family at Harlingen, Dutch province of Friesland. A descendant of this family was Jetze Pottinga Hz. (b. 1846 at Harlingen, d. 1927 at Apeldoorn), who after completing his studies at the Amsterdam Theological Seminary in 1866-1871 served the following Mennonite congregations: Noordhorn 1871-1874, Hindeloopen 1874-1878, IJlst 1878-1880, Irnsum-Poppingawier 1880-86, Joure 1886-1890, Hoorn 1890-1893 and 1893-1912; in 1912 he retired. His son Dirk Pottinga Jz. (b. 1876 at Hindeloopen, d. June 1925 at Arnhem) studied at the University and the Mennonite Seminary of Amsterdam and served the congregations of Baard 1903-1906, Veendam-Wildervank 1906-1908, Purmurend 1908-1912, and Arnhem 1912-1925.
