Templo el Peregrino (Manhattan, New York, USA)
The Templo el Peregrino (Pilgrim Temple) began in 1953 in Manhattan, New York, USA. Originally, it was an independent evangelical Spanish-language church led by Mario de Orive, who edited a Spanish newspaper. It met in the French Presbyterian Pilgrim Temple on West 16th Street. It adopted the name of the place in which it was meeting.
In 1958 Orive was introduced to the Mennonites in Brooklyn and became friends with Guillermo Torres, pastor of Primera Iglesia Menonita de Brooklyn. In 1970 Orive's congregation affiliated with the Mennonites. It joined the Atlantic Coast Conference in 1985.
Mario de Orive died in 1975, and the small group continued under the guidance of Guillermo Torres.
In 1985 it merged with the Iglesia de Efesios Menonita under the latter's name, but the new congregation met at the W. 16th Street location.
