Werner Phister, an Anabaptist martyr, an aged preacher of the brotherhood, who was seized at Wädenswil near Zürich, Switzerland, in 1640 and with his wife and his son's wife put into the Othenbach prison at Zürich. Whereas his wife was released, he and his daughter-in-law were kept in arrest until they died of want and misery. The family name of Phister was later found among the Emmental Mennonites. Here Peter Pfister was chosen as preacher in 1809 and (by lot) elder in 1825.
