Cunerus Petri from Brouwershaven, Dutch province of Zeeland, was a Catholic priest of Saint Peter's Church at Louvain, Belgium, and in 1570-1578 a bishop at Leeuwarden, Friesland. He died in 1580 at Cologne, Germany. He published Den Schilt teghen die Wederdoopers . . . bysonder die Mennonisten (Leuven, 1568). This very prejudiced writing contains no important information, but on the contrary many great errors. For example, Menno Simons is said to have been a schoolteacher. As bishop in Leeuwarden he persistently persecuted the Mennonites; Reytse Aysesz, executed in 1574, was a victim of his fanaticism.
