Jan Persijn, a Dutch Mennonite preacher, b. 19 August 1787, at Harlingen, studied at the Mennonite Seminary in Amsterdam 1807-12. He accepted the pulpit at Hindeloopen in 1813, and was then called to the Mennonite congregation in De Rijp in North Holland in 1816. He preached here nearly forty years, retiring in 1855. He preached the dedicatory sermon in 1864, when the church was remodeled, using as his text Psalm 84:2-5. Persijn was untiring in his efforts for the congregation and did a fruitful work. He died as the result of an accident at Arnhem on 1 May 1861, and was buried in De Rijp. Some of his sermons and other historical works were published; e.g., Een Viertal geschriften betr. de Doopsgez. Gemeente in de Rijp (Hoorn, 1857). He was married to M. A. M. Sepp.
