The New York Mennonite Church, Bachmut (Ignatyevka) Mennonite settlement, Ukraine, Russia, was established in 1892 by settlers who had come from the Chortitza settlement. The first elder was Abraham Unrau, who was assisted by the ministers Isaak Hildebrand, Johann Nickel, Jakob Lehn, Franz Bückert I and II, and Jakob Wiebe I and II. In 1905 the congregation had a total membership of 1,834, with 606 baptized members. The Grigoryevka and the Borissovo Mennonite churches were branches of the New York Mennonite Church. The Azov Forestry Service Camp received its spiritual guidance from this congregation. The total membership of the New York church and the two branches, including the camp, was 2,275 in 1905. Little was known in the 1950s about the fate of the congregation after World War II.
