The Mitchell County, Iowa, USA Old Order Amish settlement began in April 1975 when six families arrived from the Clark Old Order Amish settlement in Missouri. Mitchell County is on Iowa's northern border with Minnesota. Elam Beachy was an ordained minister in the group, and provided early ministerial leadership. He was ordained as a bishop in 1992.

Many of the farmers raised corns and beans, as well as some oats and hay. Because of regulations in the dairy industry, fewer farmers pursued this through the years.

In 2008 there were 42 families living in two districts (congregations) between Riceville and McIntire, and some families also north of McIntire.
