Missio Dei Church (Edmonton, Alberta, Canada)

Missio Dei Church (originally known as Summerside Community Church) in Edmonton, Alberta was begun by Ray and Kathryn Wiens in January 2000. By 2001, 150 people were attending the worship services, and 11 people had been baptized. The church was known for doing Saturday night church with a relaxed atmosphere and upbeat music. Mission teams from the congregation served in Mexico and Thailand, constructing homes and church buildings.

Differences in leadership styles and on how best to move the church forward led to a decline in attendance and financial struggles. The church chose to close in July 2014.
