The Mennonite Benefit Association (MBA), New Hamburg, Ontario, was organized in 1948 to serve Mennonites of all branches, primarily in Ontario, but also elsewhere in Canada, with aid to cover losses due to hospitalization, surgery, disability, and burial. In 1953 it had 750 members, with an annual assessment of $25 per member. Assessments were based on the previous six months' payments to members for pharmaceutical, dental, chiropractic, optometry, audiology, disabilities and burial assistance.

In the mid-1990s there were still 800 members, but that number gradually decreased to about 300 in 2014. Various institutions and groups stopped using MBA, switching to more predictable insurance carriers. In addition the Canadian Revenue Agency ruled MBA was a benefit plan, thus requiring the payment of a tax on benefits.

The Mennonite Benefit Association ended operations in September 2014, with a final assessment planned to be distributed in winter 2014/15.
