Meheret Evangelical Church (Kitchener, Ontario, Canada)
Initially established in the late 1990s, the Meheret Evangelical Church has ministered to Amharic-speaking persons from Ethiopia and Eritrea. It has been part of the Ethiopian Evangelical Churches Fellowship in Canada. The youth and children of the congregation have functioned in English. In 2017 they rented space at St. Mark's Lutheran Church in Kitchener, Ontario, Canada on Sunday afternoons for their worship services.
When Pastor Yared Seretse began his ministry at the church in June 2015 he began to search for a denominational affiliation for the congregation. After a meeting with the Mission Council of Mennonite Church Eastern Canada (MCEC) in November 2016, the congregation sought and received "emerging church" status with MCEC. It became a full member of the conference in April 2022.
In addition to Sunday afternoon worship, members have also met for weekly prayer and fasting, a mid-week teaching time, and a men's Sunday morning prayer and breakfast. In 2017 there was also a small sub-group meeting in Guelph, Ontario.
