Maurissus van Dale, an Anabaptist martyr, b. 1518 or 1519 at Bellem near Ghent, Belgium, a sheriff of Ghent, joined the Mennonite congregation at Ghent. In the records he is called a "bishop of the Mennonites." Further particulars about him were not available. On 25 June 1573 he was burned at the stake outside the Peterselle gate of Ghent.
