Marcelis Goverts Gasthuis is a home for the aged at Leeuwarden, Dutch province of Friesland, founded for the benefit of the poor members of the Waterlander congregation in 1669 by Marcelis Goverts (d. 1669). Goverts, married to Mayke Markus (d. 1664), was a member of the Leeuwarden city council and its city architect. For this reason there is some doubt whether he was a Mennonite, since at this time the Mennonites did not hold magisterial offices; but Goverts may have been an exception. The Gasthuis, located on the Stadsgracht (now Oostergrachtswal), was completely remodeled in 1766, the Leeuwarden congregation having received a large legacy from Dirk Zeper for this purpose. In 1877 a new home with the same name was built on the Noordsingel.
