Manitoba Colony (Paraguay)

Manitoba Colony, Paraguay, was founded in 1982 by Old Colony Mennonite settlers from Chihuahua, Mexico, because of a shortage of arable land in the latter country. The settlement consisted of 11,900 hectares (29,400 acres) located 15 km. (9 mi.) from the Rio Verde Colony. Four villages bad been established by 1986, with a population of 320 (57 families) and a congregational membership of 126. Further emigrants from Mexico were expected.
