Manitoba Colony, [[Paraguay|Paraguay]], was founded in 1982 by [[Old Colony Mennonites|Old Colony Mennonite]] settlers from [[Chihuahua (Mexico)|Chihuahua]], Mexico, because of a shortage of arable land in the latter country. The settlement consisted of 11,900 hectares (29,400 acres) located 15 km. (9 mi.) from the [[Rio Verde Colony (San Pedro Department, Paraguay)|Rio Verde Colony]].
