März (Mertz), Joachim, an Anabaptist martyr, a native of Bamberg, Germany, was won to Anabaptist doctrine by Hans Hut and baptized by him in a village near Koburg in the summer of 1526 together with Eucharius Binder. Like Hans Hut, he was an Anabaptist missionary, at first in the region, of Königsberg in Franconia and the valleys of the tributaries of the Main. In the statements made by the prisoners he was usually named with Hans Hut, and seems to have accompanied him on his journeys. Early in 1527 he was in the region of Bamberg (Wappler, 239), Nürnberg, and Augsburg (Wappler, 245), and later in Passau. From here he went to the Martyrs' Synod in Augsburg with Hans Hut, Eucharius Binder, and Georg Nespitzer (Roth, 232), and there was commissioned to evangelize in the region of Salzburg (Roth, 232 and 234). But their work was of short duration. They were imprisoned in Salzburg with Binder, and burned at the stake on 25 October 1527.
