Lupushorst (Pomeranian Voivodeship, Poland)
Lupushorst (now known as Lubstowo; coordinates: 54.1325, 19.1974 [54° 7′ 57″ N, 19° 11′ 50″ E]; population in 1905, 367; in 2012, 180) is located approximately 11 kilometres (7 miles) south-east of Nowy Dwór Gdański (Tiegenhof), 13 km. (8 mi.) south-west of Elbląg (Elbing), 14 km. (9 mi.) north-east of Malbork (Marienburg), and 45 km. (28 mi.) south-east of the regional capital Gdańsk (Danzig).
Lubstowo was founded as a tenement village in 1361. Until 1772 Lupushorst was located in what was known as Royal Prussia (also known as Polish Prussia) in the Kingdom of Poland. The First Partition of Poland in 1772 resulted in the creation of a new province in 1773, called West Prussia, in which Lupushorst was located. Lupushorst was situated in the district (Kreis) of Marienburg until the establishment of the Free City of Danzig in 1920. The village came under the control of Nazi Germany during World War II until February 1945, when it was occupied by Soviet forces and returned to Poland. In 2012 Lupushort (now Lubstowo) was a village in the administrative district of Gmina Nowy Staw, within Malbork County, Pomeranian Voivodeship.
The 1776 Prussian census does not list any Mennonites in Lupushorst. It appears that Mennonites first settled in Lupushort no earlier than the last quarter of the 18th century. In 1820, the village had 315 residents including 6 Mennonites.
Mennonites who were residents of Lupushorst were members of the Rosenort Mennonite Church.
