Los Angeles (California, USA)
Los Angeles, California, a city (1956 pop. 2,243,910; 2006 pop. 3,849,378) located in the county by the same name, had eight Mennonite congregations in 1956 as follows: Evangelical Mennonite Brethren—The Church of the Bible, 8004 Vineland, Sun Valley, California, with 80 members; General Conference Mennonite—Community Mennonite Church (in process of organization) and Immanuel Mennonite Church, 10335 Paramount Boulevard, Downey, with 271 members; Independent—35th Street Mennonite Church, 35th and Normandie, with 35 members; Mennonite Brethren—City Terrace Mennonite Church, 1441 North Herbert, with 31 members; Hoover Boulevard Mennonite Brethren Church, with 61 members, and Valley Mennonite Brethren Church (in process of organizing), 14162 Van Nuys Boulevard, Pacoima, California, with 20 members; Mennonite Church—Calvary Mennonite Church, 147 West 73rd St., with 74 members. The total Mennonite membership in the area in 1956 was probably about 700. Mennonites began to settle in Los Angeles about 1902.
