Liiske (Liiken), an Anabaptist martyr, was burned at the stake on 10 August 1550,at Montfort, in the territory of Upper Gelre, now Dutch province of Limburg. Her trial of 21 July 1550, at Arnhem, Dutch province of Gelderland, gives many interesting particulars. Liisken was the wife of Aerken Snyder (tailor); she was born about 1520 at Groote Spawe near Maastricht and had been (re-) baptized about 1545 by Theunis van Hastenrath in the house of Jan Neulen (which was therefore demolished). Lemken and the martyr Metken were present at the baptism. After a sermon by Theunis, he baptized her with water which had been drawn from a well. During the trial she also confessed that she had heard Gillis van Aken preach and once on an evening Menno Simons, when he was preaching in a meadow. She further gave interesting information about the greeting used by the Mennonites by which they recognized one another. Liisken, being examined concerning her faith, was accused of agreeing with Menno Simons and his followers.
