Laurens van de Walle (Lauwers van der Walle), a weaver by trade, was an Anabaptist martyr. He was arrested at Ieper (Ypres) in Flanders and burned there at the stake in 1561 (exact date unknown) with Maeyken Kocx, Calleken Strings, and Anthonis Schoonvelt. They are celebrated in a hymn beginning, "Geroert ben ick van binnen" (Inwardly I am moved), found in the Lietboecxken van den Offer des Heeren, No. 24. This hymn, slightly modified, is also found in Een Nieu Liedenboeck of 1562, and is given in Wackernagel, Lieder. From this song, which was the principal source of the later Dutch martyrbooks, including van Braght's Martyrs' Mirror, it is known that this group, driven from their homes by persecution, had shortly before arrived in the neighborhood of Ieper, where they lived as artisans, apparently as weavers. They were surprised by the officials and all arrested but a few escaped. In the hymn the name of Laurens van der Walle is not found. The song also names Kaerl (van Yperen), who apparently is identical with Laurens van de Walle. There are other martyrs named van de Walle, to whom Laurens van de Walle may have been related.
