Johann Kymäus (Kymeus), a Protestant minister at the time the Ziegenhain church discipline (Zuchtordnung) was introduced in Hesse. He was at first a Franciscan monk, then pastor at Homburg, Hesse, Germany, and later superintendent at Kassel. Kymäus was one of the theologians appointed to reply to the Restitution sent to Philipp of Hesse by the Münster Anabaptists in 1534 (Rembert, 296). In 1537 he published a booklet on the synod of 355 held at Gangra (60 miles northeast of Angora) with the title, Ein Alt Christlich Concilium fur 1200 jaren zu Gangra jnn Paphlagonia gehalten, wider die hoch genante heiligkeit der München vnd Wiederteuffer . . . verdeutscht und ausgelegt, for which Martin Luther wrote a preface. The booklet attacks especially the Anabaptists and their "false doctrines"; an evil tree cannot bear good fruit (Keller, 163).

After the trial of the Anabaptists at Marburg, which led to the introduction of confirmation in the Protestant churches, he was a co-author of the opinion titled Bekenntniss oder Antwort etlicher Fragestücke oder Artikeln der gefangenen Täufer und Anderer im Land zu Hessen, which led to the conclusion "that they would gladly forgive these brethren in the Lord" (Hochhuth, 612-626).
