Peter M. Kroeker, a Mennonite (Kleine Gemeinde) leader, was born 20 June 1840, in Russia, the youngest of the six children of Franz Kroeker (1799-1853) and Hedwig (Martens) Kroeker (1798 in Prussia - died 1861 in Russia). Peter M. Kroeker's wife was Margaretha Braun. Three sons and two daughters lived to adulthood: Margaretha (Mrs. Abram D. Loewen), Anna (Mrs. Cornelius J. Loewen), Peter B. Kroeker, Franz B. Kroeker, and Jakob B. Kroeker. All three of his sons and one of his older brothers became ministers of the church. Peter M. Kroeker was ordained as minister at Borozenko, Nikopol, in 1871. In 1874 the family migrated to Canada and settled in Rosenort, near Morris, Manitoba. In 1878, when Peter Toews with the other ministers and part of the church joined the Church of God in Christ (Mennonite), only Peter Kroeker, his brother Franz Kroeker, and Peter Baerg, near Steinbach, remained as ministers with the Kleine Gemeinde. Peter officiated as elder for approximately 30 years.  He died 15 April 1915.
