Kossen family

Kossen is a Mennonite family name found in the north of the Dutch province of North Holland. Formerly they were all farmers. Descendants of this family are Dirk Kossen (b. 1865 at Barsingerhorn, d. 1934 at Driehuis), who studied at the university and Mennonite Seminary at Amsterdam and then was pastor of Mennonite congregations of Den Helder 1891-1895, The Hague 1895-1897, Akkrum 1898-1913, and Bolsward 1913-1932. He was a trustee of the Algemene Doopsgezinde Sociëteit (Dutch General Mennonite Conference) in 1905-1931 and the promoter of the "Dienstjarenfonds" in 1911, of which he was president 1924-1934. His son Hendrik B. Kossen, b. 1923 at Bolsward, studied at the Amsterdam university and seminary, and served the IJlst congregation 1950-56, and Berlikum 1956- .
