Kopijn, Jan (d. 1711)

Jan Kopijn (Copijn), of Amsterdam, who died in 1711 at Dordrecht, living after 1675 at Middelburg, Dutch province of Zeeland, he was a deacon of the Mennonite church and thereupon a preacher at Middelburg 1680-1706. In this year he moved to Zuilen near Utrecht. Not much is known about Kopijn. He wrote a number of poems, one of which celebrated his fellow preacher Adriaen van Eeghem. Another familiar devotional poem by Kopijn was Eenvoudige Samenspraak over het Leeven en Lyden van Kristus, two volumes (Utrecht 1708 and 1736). Kopijn was married in 1690 to Janneken Terwen, of Middelburg.
