Jubilee Mennonite Church (Meridian, Mississippi, USA)
__TOC_ In 1978 Milford and Carolyn Lyndaker and Daryl and Cindy Byler began a Thursday night Bible study in Meridian, Mississippi. In 1980, the group organized as the Jubilee Mennonite Church and became part of the Gulf States Mennonite Conference of the Mennonite Church (MC). The group soon added Leon Kauffman and Duane Maust to the leadership team.
In 1983, Jubilee bought an old home at the corner of Hooper Street and 40th Avenue as a worship center and home where the Byler family lived. As the congregation grew, it moved to the Highland United Methodist Church's fellowship hall. In August 1991, it moved again to St. Paul's Episcopal Church's parish hall. Later it met in the church's sanctuary on Sunday afternoons.
In October 1991, Jubilee bought the former Highland School property, with plans to build a new church building. However, it learned that Central Presbyterian was facing closure and wanted the Mennonite congregation to take over its building. In December 1993, Jubilee purchased the former Presbyterian building for $100,000. The size of the building has meant that the east wing and chapel have been rented to other church groups. Jubilee’s Community of Hope tutoring program used space upstairs, and local youth groups used the gym.
