Jouckes, Age (17th/18th century)
Age Jouckes was a preacher of the Groningen Old Flemish Mennonites at Knijpe, Dutch province of Friesland. He was excommunicated in 1687 because of "his strange opinions and his disobedience," which consisted in his view that other Mennonites like the "Twiskers" (followers of P. J. Twisck: Old Frisians) and others were good Christians just as well as the Groningen Old Flemish. This opinion, differing from the general views of the Groningen Old Flemish, who thought their brotherhood to be the only true Christian church, originated from Collegiant principles, to which Age Jouckes was won over. The ban was pronounced after a vote by the brethren. Age Jouckes then joined the Waterlander Mennonite congregation of Heerenveen-Knijpe, in which he soon became a preacher. The year of his death is unknown. In 1706 he was still a preacher.
