Jansz, Hero (16th/17th century)

Hero Jansz, preacher of the Old Flemish Mennonite congregation of Amsterdam, serving 1610-(?), who as appears from L. de Buyser's Verklaringe van den droevigen handel . . . (Amsterdam, 1616), was censured by the congregation because of his idea that the Flemish branch was not the only true church of Christ. After confession before the congregation he was maintained as a preacher. De Buyser, who was not satisfied with the decision and wanted Jansz to be excommunicated, indicates that Jansz was a spiritualist, who laid more stress upon the "inner word" than upon the Scriptures.
