Janne de Snijdere (alias Jan Rotterdamme), an Anabaptist martyr burned at the stake on 5 May 1571 at Brussels, Belgium, together with his wife Elisabeth Bruyne. Janne was a native of Brouwershaven, Dutch province of Zeeland. Their six children were baptized in the Catholic St. Gudule cathedral at Brussels on the day their parents were executed. This Janne de Snijdere is probably not identical with Jan Snijder, an Anabaptist who (Mellink, Wederdopers, 217, 414) lived at Kleve, Germany, and who in 1544 sent two books by David Joris to Delft, Holland.
