Jan (Johan, Janne, Jannes) Specke (or Johan Speckart, apparently identical with Hans Speck), a former Dominican monk of Groningen in the Netherlands, who about 1534 joined the Anabaptists and soon became a leader of the Batenburgers in the Netherlands (followers of the revolutionary Anabaptist Jan van Batenburg). Specke often stayed at Strasbourg in Alsace and was active in Groningen and Deventer. In 1537 he was apprehended at Antwerp, Belgium, and burned at the stake there in 1537, probably on 24 May.
