Jan Blok (Block), a linen weaver of Ghent, an Anabaptist martyr, was executed by burning at the stake at Vught, Dutch province of North Brabant, on 9 September 1538, with a gag in his mouth to prevent his speaking or calling. He had been arrested in August at 's-Hertogenbosch, together with seven others, including his wife Lysken, who was burned at the stake the next day, and Paulus van Drunen, the bishop of the congregation, who was executed on the same day as Jan Blok.
