Jacques (Jacob) Semou, perhaps identical with Jan de Schaper, an Anabaptist martyr, born at Bethune, French Flanders, a weaver, 38 years of age, living at Borgerhout near Antwerp. He had been (re) baptized at Ghent about 1558 by Joachim Vermeeren, and was arrested while attending a meeting in the house of Jan Poote at Antwerp in February 1569. Twice he was severely tortured, but refused to tell the inquisitors who had preached the sermon. On 19 March 1569 he was burned at the stake at Antwerp together with Jan Poote, Hans Vermandele, and Joos van Beke.
