Jacobs, Rijk (16th/17th century)

Rijk Jacobs was the author of Een schriftelycke waerschouwinge voor valsche leere. Ghemaeckt door R. J. en voor sijne kinderen tot een Testament naeghelaten om daerdoor te onderscheyden het thegenschrijven van J. R. [Jacques van Reineghem, i.e., Jacques Outerman,]  gedaen thegen dat heylsaem schriftmatige getuygenisse der gesonder leere Jesu Christi schriftelick ende mondelick betuycht door A [rent] B[arentsz] en H[endrick van Gulik] (n.p., 1612). In this booklet Jacobsz accuses Outerman of Socinianism. This Rijk Jacobs is probably identical with the Rijck Jacobsz who was a physician at Baambrugge, province of Utrecht, and from 1614 a preacher of the Waterlander congregation at Staveren, Friesland, who disagreed with Hans de Ries and other Waterlanders in insisting that persons coming from the Reformed Church should be rebaptized. He also published De predicatien der namen Gods (Amsterdam, 1624). W. J. van Douwen's surmise (Socinianen en Doopsgezinden) that he later became a Reformed pastor is not very probable.
