Johannes Hoornbeek was a Dutch Reformed theologian, appointed professor of theology at the University of Utrecht in 1644 and at Leiden in 1654. Among his numerous writings is the stately compendium of five volumes, which also touches upon the Mennonites, Summae controversiarum religionis (Utrecht, 1658). Among the writers opposing Anabaptism he has received considerable recognition.
