Christian Herr (born 31 October 1780, died 23 June 1853) was a bishop of the Lancaster Mennonite Conference. On 8 April 1800 he was married to Anna Forrer (1783-1831), by Peter Eby, and became his successor as bishop. He was by vocation a farmer along the Beaver Valley Pike, living on the original Herr tract in Lancaster County. He served as a deacon, minister, and bishop for a combined period of 30 years, in the Brick, Strasburg-New Providence charge. He was unusually gifted and influential in both church and community, interested in the education of youth, perhaps not eloquent, but a contender for the faith both by tongue and pen. A collection of German hymns of his production was published. He contributed a brief sketch, "History of the Mennonites," to I. D. Rupp's History of the Religious Denominations (Philadelphia, 1844). His family of eight children included Benjamin Herr, a bishop, and Amos Herr, a preacher.
