Gerrit van Hengelaer was a deacon of the Mennonite congregation of Utrecht in the Netherlands, with conservative views and opposed to the Galenists and W. van Maurik, author of Een Morgen-Wecker, an important pamphlet (128 pp., Utrecht, 1673) in which he tried to undo the quarrels and the separation which had struck the congregation. The booklet, an admonition to peace and unity, is followed by a short confession of five articles.
