Hendrik Arents (d. 1568)

Hendrik Arents, an Anabaptist martyr, a carpenter by trade, was seized in Brielle near Rotterdam while engaged in repairing a ship. He did not know that it belonged to pirates. Nevertheless he was taken to Rotterdam with the pirates, where they were sentenced to death by hanging. From a petition in which Hendrick stated his innocence, the governor noticed that he was dealing with an Anabaptist. Hendrik was again examined, openly confessed his faith, and was condemned to die at the stake; after a two weeks' imprisonment he bore his suffering with great courage.
