Abraham Heidanus was professor of theology at the University of Leyden (Holland). By his tolerant attitude and courageous defense of his theological position in the various quarrels of his time he won great respect. Because of his frank book, Consideratien (1676), he was deprived of his professorship, but retained his position as parson until his death. He wrote several letters to the authorities in Bern in warm defense of the harassed Mennonites there, thus securing permission for them to leave the country.
