Hans (Jan) Symonsz, (erroneously also called Simon Janssen), an Anabaptist martyr, was burned at the stake at Antwerp, Belgium on 13 September 1567. He was a wholesale dealer and a preacher of the Antwerp congregation. In 1566 he had been in Friesland to settle the Flemish-Frisian quarrels (see Flemish Mennonites). The Martyrs' Mirror contains two letters written by Hans in prison.
