Grootebroek (Noord-Holland, Netherlands)

Grootebroek, a village in the Dutch province of North Holland, near Enkhuizen, where there was formerly a Mennonite congregation, of whose history nothing is known. Leenaert Bouwens baptized 18 persons here in 1551-1554 and another 24 in 1563-1565. This presupposes the existence of a congregation at this time. In the 17th century the congregation belonged to the Waterlander branch. It dissolved before 1731, since it is not found in the first [[Naamlijst der tegenwoordig in dienst zijnde predikanten der Mennoniten in de Vereenigde Nederlanden|Naamlijst]] (of 1731). Its possessions and stocks were handed over to the North Holland Waterlander Conference or Rijper Sociëteit.
