Groß Brodsende was founded in 1631 by Dutch colonists. Until 1772 the village was located in what was known as Royal Prussia (also known as Polish Prussia) in the Kingdom of [[Poland|Poland]]. The 1776 Prussian census lists five Mennonite families in Groß Brodsende with the followin surnames: Billing, Dircksen, Froese, Funck, and Goertzen. The 1824 Mennonite land census of Marienwerder does not list any Mennonite land holders in Groß Brodsende.
Mennonites who were residents of Groß Brodsende were members of the Tragheimerweide Mennonite Church.
