Grüneisen, Karl (1802-1878)

Karl Grüneisen, a German theologian, court chaplain and holder of other honorary offices. He is the author of a series of works on theology and art criticism. His "Abriss einer Geschichte der religiösen Gemeinschaften in Württemberg," in Zeitschrift für historische Theologie (1841) 63-142, was published in extract as Geschichte der neuen Taufgesinnten in Württemberg (1840) and translated into Dutch under the title, Mennoniten en Doopsgezinden in Wurtemberg (Amsterdam, 1848). Part I of the Abriss presents a noteworthy account of the rise of Anabaptism in Württemberg in the 16th century, and the struggle against it, and then also the rise of the Baptist brotherhood in 1838.
