The Gospel Fellowship Church in Steinbach, MB began services in 1962, and formally organized in 1963. The first building was occupied in 1962, with a subsequent building program in 1975. David D. Friesen is considered the founding leader of the group. The congregation originated through outreach by the Evangelical Mennonite Mission Conference and division from the Chortitzer Mennonites. The charter members were primarily former members of the Chortitz Mennonite church.
