Goos family

Goos was the name of a Mennonite family which played a significant role in the Friedrichstadt and Hamburg Mennonite congregations in Germany. Abraham Goos and his son Isaak (1696-1769) were deacons of the Mennonite church at Friedrichstadt. Another Isaak Goos studied theology and served as the minister of the Mennonite church (1798-1845) of Hamburg, under whom the change from the Dutch language in worship services to the German took place. His son Berend (1815-1885) was a well-known artist in Hamburg.
